Divaine 100 mg is a high-strength formulation of minocycline designed for treating more serious bacterial infections that require a potent dose.  Minocycline is a second-generation tetracycline antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis, stopping the growth of susceptible organisms.  At a 100 mg strength, Divaine may be prescribed for acute respiratory infections such as pneumonia or severe bronchitis, complicated skin and soft tissue infections, meningococcal carrier state, and as prophylaxis against meningitis in close contacts.  It may also be used off-label for persistent acne that has not responded to lower doses.

Taking Divaine 100mg responsibly helps maximize its efficacy.  Swallow each tablet whole with a full glass of water to reduce the risk of esophageal irritation.  Avoid lying down for 30 minutes after taking the tablet.  While the medication can be taken with food, dairy products, antacids and supplements containing calcium, magnesium, iron or zinc can interfere with absorption; separate them by at least two hours.  Dosage regimens vary depending on the infection, but a typical dose may be 100 mg twice on the first day followed by 100 mg once or twice daily.  For meningococcal carriage, the course is usually shorter.  Always complete the full course prescribed by your doctor, even if symptoms improve earlier.

The higher dose increases the likelihood of side effects.  Common reactions include nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, dizziness, headache and photosensitivity.  Vestibular effects like vertigo and tinnitus are more common at high doses, particularly during the first few days.  Rarely, minocycline can cause skin and mucosal hyperpigmentation, autoimmune reactions (drug-induced lupus) or serious allergic reactions.  Prolonged use has been associated with liver toxicity and pseudotumor cerebri (increased intracranial pressure).  Seek medical attention if you experience severe headache with vision changes, persistent dizziness, jaundice or joint pain.  Do not use Divaine 100 mg during pregnancy or in children under 8 years old due to the risk of tooth discoloration and impaired bone growth.

Inform your doctor about all medications, supplements and pre-existing conditions before starting minocycline.  Minocycline may enhance the effect of blood-thinning medications and reduce the effectiveness of oral contraceptives; therefore, additional contraception is recommended.  If you have kidney or liver disease, your doctor may adjust the dose or choose an alternative antibiotic.  When used appropriately and monitored carefully, Divaine 100 mg can effectively eradicate serious bacterial infections while minimizing the risk of resistance and adverse effects.
